FSA refuses to name and shame Rogue Banks

The Financial Services Authority, already largely discredited as a "City Watchdog", was (supposedly) set up to root-out bad practice and protect the public from corruption in the Financial Services Industry by firm regulation.

However, this priveleged institution, made up largely of Bankers and Financial Services Professionals seem reluctant to "name and shame" the FIVE High Street Banks it has judged to have failed to meet MINIMUM standards of good practice in dealing promptly and fairly with customer complaints.
Presumably the FSA takes the view that if WE knew which banks were first "ripping us off," and then "fobbing us off", we might take our business elsewhere !

Duh-uhhh !!!! THAT's THE WHOLE POINT ISN'T IT ???

This is what the FSA found in MOST BANKS when it lifted the gold-brick:

A lack of senior management engagement and accountability for the delivery of fair complaint handling;
Poorly designed staff incentive schemes that made branch staff reluctant to pay redress to customers, even in situations where the bank was at fault;
Poor quality complaint handling by staff in branches and general call-centres leading to inadequate investigations, poor decision making as to the outcome of the complaint and unsatisfactory correspondence with customers;
Complaint handling procedures that led to staff issuing multiple, repetitive responses to customers, forcing them to restate their complaint a number of times in the face of ongoing negative responses from the bank;
The failure of banks to learn from previous complaints and to make changes to prevent similar complaints arising in the future.

So what about YOUR BANK ?..... Oh come on, get real!.. this information is (it seems) strictly "Need-To-Know.... Customers Excluded"

If you've been following my blog, you'll know that I've become a great fan of Electronic Cigarettes.

Smokers, and Ex-Smokers, who have tried to "kick-the-habit" using the nicotine-replacement gum, patches or inhalators will know how disappointingly ineffective these can be in replacing the total sensation that cigarettes provide.

So the "hard-core" of smokers are banished to stand in doorways in all weathers.

...and then I saw this item on BBC News about a Pub in Sutton Coldfield that was allowing customers to use "Electronic Cigarettes" indoors.

ELECTRONIC CIGARETTES ??? ...... I "Googled" the term and read the comments and reviews I found there.

NO HARMFUL TARS ! NO CANCER RISK ! NO FIRE RISK ! NO SECONDARY SMOKE ! TOBACCO TASTE ! NICOTINE HIT ! VIRTUALLY THE FULL SMOKING SENSATION ! NO LEGAL RESTRICTION ON USE IN PUBLIC PLACES ! HUGE COST SAVINGS COMPARED WITH CONVENTIONAL CIGARETTES !

TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE ?

In view of this distinction,the odd false claim THEY make, here and there, shouldn't be held against them.)

You might think that the burden of responsibility for imposing the Rule of Law on the rest of us is made a lot lighter by the facility to charge the cost of your wine-cellar directly to the taxpayer 's account ! I can't comment, but then again I'm only obliged to pay my portion of these bills (as a taxpayer), I'm not entitled to question the validity of them. Maybe you should ask her husband... WE pay HER £40,000 p.a. to employ HIM as her "assistant" !

There's a bloke I know. His car is bigger and better than mine, his suits are handmade and expensive, he flies first-class to exotic and exclusive locations where he stays in the best (Five Star) hotels, his house has an expensive security system (a house like that needs it), his children are groomed in public schools and his Pension is enormous.

How did he accumulate this wealth ?
By gambling with YOUR money !
AND YOU LOST !!!

He is (of course) a BANKER. It's a SIMPLE SCAM. Bankers take enormous risks by gambling with the bank's (depositor's) funds. If they win, lose or break even then they award themselves HUGE BONUSES.

If they CONSISTENTLY LOSE MONEY then the poor dears are given EVEN MORE CASH and and walk away to think up ANOTHER SCAM (or retained as "consultants" for a modest wedge of notes).

WHY DO WE ALLOW THIS ??
ARE WE JUST PLAIN STUPID ??

And now another one "bites-the-dust". This time it's not a Bank, it's the Dunfermline Building Society. (Scotland must be SO proud).

So what's the difference ? Well it's basically this.... A Bank is a commercial organisation which is there to make money for it's shareholders or owners by dealing in financial products.... A Building Society, on the other hand, is a "Mutual" organisation, owned by its depositors, established specifically to prudently lend the depositors money to homebuyers on a "not-for-profit" basis. Low-Risk, Reasonable returns.

That was before the boys in the sharp suits moved in, bought more than £240,000,000 of "packaged loans" on the US market and headed for the "profitable" commercial market.

But don't worry, it's ONLY cost us (the taxpayers) a total of £1,600,000,000 (about £25 for EVERY MAN, WOMAN & CHILD in the UK) to pass the parcel to the Nationwide Building Society.

FEELING CONFIDENT THAT EVERYTHING IS NOW UNDER CONTROL ??

Shanny shares a Birthday Bash with Des.... Raj, Fatemah and a debut by (the Very Pretty) Priti, [in the grey dress], kept myself, Mus, Paul (the other one) and Raj's friends, Shailesh & Manju, enthralled.. A "Hen-Night" and another Birthday in the restaurant keep the mood bubbling.

The food was great....Dolmades, Taromasalata, Greek Salad, Sea Bass, Kleftico, "Da Spicy Meataballs" Etc. AND a big gooey Chocolate Birthday Cake.

The belly dancer on the table put everyone "in the mood" and the dancing spilled out onto the street.... traditional Greek "plate-breaking" added the authentic touch.

(OK, so I'm no Steven Speiberg... but it's not bad for a Nokia N95)

The "Black-Thing" I'm waving around is my E-Cigarette... which didn't even raise an eyebrow when I used it in the restaurant (during the post-feeding phase)... the manager tells me he likes the idea, especially since it has a blue-glowing tip to avoid confusion, so I'll add The Athens to the VAPER's GUIDE.

The Music is NOT dubbed.... if you move out into the street to dance, they turn on a pair of heavy-duty speakers that fill the air with music.

Great place for Group Get-Togethers... The meal will probably come to less than £20.00 per head (ours averaged out at about £16.00) not including drinks.... A (very) large glass of house wine is £4.00, Bottled Beers £2.50, Soft Drinks £1.00..... BUT........Iced Tap Water with a Slice of Lemon by the Jug (when you're dancing) is FREE.

Jennifer Aniston, Drew Barrymore, Ben Affleck, Ginnifer Goodwin, Jennifer Connelly, Scarlett Johansson, Justin Long, Bradley Cooper, Kevin Connolly, Kris Kristofferson

I'm no "Jonafon Woss" when it comes to film criticism, but in my humble opinion this film, billed as "a twenty and thirty-somethings struggle with the tragicomedy of modern romance" is a load of self-indulgent "tosh".
Sure, there's loads of "eye-candy", lots of moist lip quivering from Scarlett Johansson, the usual quota of meaningful brow furrowing and attentive pouting from Jennifer Aniston and stubble-framed tooth twinkling smiles from Ben Affleck...etc., but no coherent story line.
It's as if the film company had scoured it's books to find which of their contracted "stars" were unprofitably "between films", bundled together a series of "cameo-performances" and sold them on as a "package", in much the same way that bankers did with all those dodgy mortgages recently. I think the viewer is supposed to identify with the predicaments and/or responses of the characters..... but I didn't.

Ha! Ha!.... I just checked guardian.co.uk to see what Peter Bradshaw (the film critic) has to say about this film... and here's HIS verdict !

"An unendurable relationship-romcom, which you should avoid the way you would a glass of punch with a frothy gob of Anthrax floating on the surface. It stars a string of dead-eyed mid-career thirtysomethings who do not appear to be carbon-based lifeforms, and it's based on a 2004 self-help bestseller, once boosted by a mention on TV's Sex and the City. Going wanly through the motions are Jennifer Aniston, Ben Affleck, Drew Barrymore and also Scarlett Johansson, whose screen presence and star-voltage is not what it was."

When I first saw the photograph I looked at the hat, chuckled to myself, and thought "What a Corker!!"..... Then a sequence of ideas came together.... culminating in a "doodle" in my "Paint" programme that just got "out-of-hand".

It's an Idea that shouldn't be wasted... so I've decided to have a "proper-job" done to celebrate Shanny's Antipodean Odyssey, taking in Singapore, Sydney, Melbourne, New Zealand, (back to Oz) ..... Brisbane, Cairns, Darwin, Back to Singapore en-route to Dubai and then (hopefully) home safe to the Arctic Wastes of the West Midlands.

I've just placed the order, online, for Artwork and a "Mounted Presentation" Magazine Cover... and I'll Blog the results as they become available...

UK TAXPAYERS - BENEVOLENT BOOKMAKERS FOR BANKERS

Did any of us feel SO sorry for the Bankers, who finally choked on their own toxic cocktail of incompetence, negligence, greed and corruption ....that our immediate reaction was to cancel our holidays, offer our houses up for repossession or bid farewell to pension rights accrued over a lifetime of work?

NO ???

Well that is exactly what just happened !

Bankers who have dishonestly and recklessly GAMBLED your deposits, savings and mortgage contracts can (and will) look forward to one last bonus payout, golden handshakes, massive contributions to their personal pension funds and an early and very comfortable retirement in which they can enjoy their wealth, accumulated assets, Knighthoods, Peerages etc.

From the list of season-ticket holders on the Banking Gravy-Train replacements are selected and given control of the levers of power, secure in the knowledge that THEY, as an oligarchy, self appointed to sit in judgement over the viability, creditworthiness and financial wellbeing of the rest of us, our employers and our institutions, ARE THEMSELVES, and will remain, set above the Laws of Economics that they purport to uphold.

And who is paying for this….

WE are, with our Jobs, our Houses, our Pension Funds and Savings….
And OUR CHILDREN will be .....with extra taxation for years to come.

And WHY ???

Because the LAW does not actually specify that Bankers can’t pretend that the “Losses” they make (and conspire to hide, by "passing the parcel" a.k.a. "securitisation" and other devious practices) are in fact “Gains”, ...AND THEN... incur further losses by rewarding themselves, based upon this fiction… AND THEN….. pass the bill on to their customers until, FINALLY, this fabrication of deceit and lies is uncovered and the customers queue for their cash…. AND then…. The taxpayer… (made up mostly of those who didn’t benefit from this unfunded binge) …is expected to step in and pick up the bill.

The State has become, in effect, a BENEVOLENT BOOKMAKER FOR BANKERS, paying out on wins….. picking up the bill for losses.

Every penny we pay to these fraudsters encourages them, and their successors, to continue to blackmail us into subsidising their “racket” in future....

We are all familiar with the concept of “Windfall Taxes”…. Retrospective taxation on income not rightly earned by fair trading in an open market, well…. Here’s an opportunity for the Government to reclaim some of the lost billions and to send a clear message to these “Gangsters in Grey Suits”.

PERSONAL WINDFALL TAXATION OF UNJUSTIFIABLE BONUSES

The case is clear…. The only question is “how far back should liability be enforced”… Five Years ?, Ten ?, Twenty ?

“BUT..” (you might say) “… this might drive some very rich people into unexpected bankruptcy, is that fair ??”

The answer is that it would be as fair for them as it has been for the victims, whose cash and credit they hijacked to gamble with….. they should be grateful that, in these enlightened times, no one is actually calling for a harsher punishment to "fit the crime”.

President Obama has made it clear that the behaviour of these people has been, and continues to be “Shameful”

… The “Gentlemen Bankers” of UK (and our eighteen Tax Haven Dependencies…!!) will smile through their crocodile tears when they reflect upon this….

After all, using the Terminal Bonuses that WE are paying for, these people can afford to retire to their tax-havens and pay someone “minimum-wage” to stay here an “feel the shame” for them !!!

So... What happened to revenge ?

Full-Pocketted Politicians whinge and shed crocodile tears while they commit more and more of my, your, OUR money to prop-up Banks and to re-assure these grey-suited crooks that the Old School Tie brigade are exempt from peril or punishment, provided that they have used enough of our money to swindle us from within a contrived legal framework.

Desperate times call for desperate measures...

LET'S HAVE SOME NEW, RETROSPECTIVE LAWS.

These fraudsters KNEW THAT THEY WERE GAMBLING WITH OUR MONEY.

They knew that THEY WOULD TAKE THE WINNINGS and WE WOULD STAND THE LOSSES.

I (just about) stop short of calling for the guillotine... but wholesale confiscation of their ILL GOTTEN BOGUSES (sorry "BONUSES") should be considered.

These low-lifes are even now using the money they cheated out of us .. to send their kids to Eton on a fast track to OxBridge and the Boardrooms of our biggest institutions so that their overpriveleged spawn can carry on the family tradition and screw us for generations to come.

It's time for us all to lift our windows and scream out into the night... "WE'RE MAD AS HELL AND WE'RE NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANY MORE !!!!"

It's time to scrape this scum off our gene-pool and start again.
